Roche Bros: Up-market Boston-based supermarket chain with 14 stores offering bakeries, delis, flowers, groceries etc. They teamed up with Buy4now to launch their eGrocery service in late 2005. 7 stores were chosen as picking centers to give geographical reach as well as allowing for substantial demand. The In-store picking model that Roche Bros. chose allows customers to place their orders up to three hours before a delivery slot starts.  The flexibility and quick turn-around time that is afforded by the In-store picking model had a direct benefit for the online shoppers in Boston.
They now offer 16,000 products to the online shopper.

Peapod (Stop & Shop): Peapod are the last of the dot.com companies still standing.  Bought by Royal Ahold in 2001 when Peapod were in a financially precarious position, the company has gone from strength to strength ever since.  Although the Chicago and SE Wisconsin market is serviced from a centralized warehouse, Peapod’s operations on the East coast have ‘piggy-backed’ on the locations of it’s parent company (Royal Ahold).  Both Stop & Shop and Giant supermarkets are used to fulfill orders all along the Eastern seaboard.  Service charges vary according to the amount purchased and the use of the wareroom model has hampered customer-friendly initiatives such as placing an order up to 4 hours before a delivery slot. In total, Peapod service over 750 zip codes throughout the United States.
